Centennial Service Celebration

100 years ago on 7th June 1917 Melvin Jones held the first Lions Meeting.  Today Lions International is the largest service organisation in the world.

To mark this special day, the Lions Club of Tokai sent Lion Charlie Flanagan off to Mowbray Maternity Hospital who are also celebrating their 100th year, to hand over 100 baby care packs.  The baby care packs contain a blanket, nappies, various items of clothing, bootees, hats, baby cream, etc.  The packs are put together and distributed regularly by Tokai Lions through its Naked Baby Project, to assist mothers in need in the community.

Carol Adam, manager at Mowbray Maternity, was delighted to accept the 100 packs to mark Lions and Mowbray’s Centennial Anniversary.

For the last 100 years Lions have been serving communities with dedication and contributed to the development and well-being of millions of people around the world.

In addition to this activity, our whole Lions District, 410A, which covers all over the Western Cape plus Namibia, is celebrating the 100th anniversary with a 100 Centennial Service Celebration on the 10th June 2017.

The Centennial Service Celebration is all about 100.

On this one important day, 10th June, at least 3,650 people will be served in our communities.  412 Lions will be busy with a vast range of service activities serving the community, representing 33 Clubs.  Many Lions and Clubs in and around Cape Town and the Western Cape will be involved.

Club members will be volunteering 100 minutes or donating 100 items to the needy in our communities. These projects range from Seniors; Youth; Feeding the Hungry; Sight; Environment and Animal Care.

See accompanying spreadsheet for more information on exactly what we are doing, and contact details.  Further information please contact Jules Blake on jules@flanagan.co.za, or 084 0606155.

Lions Clubs – we help where help is needed in our own communities and around the world. The world’s largest service club organization.

Lions give Sight, serve youth, assist the aged, the disabled, the disadvantaged. In fact wherever there is a need there are Lions.

Everywhere we work, we make friends. With children who need schoolbooks, with seniors who need transportation and with people we may never meet.

We’re led by talented, dedicated volunteer leaders from around the world. And, we’re supported by the Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF), which helps to fund Lions humanitarian projects.
