At the 25th Anniversary Lions Peace Poster Contest held on Saturday 26th October in Pinelands Mikaela Tuck’s entry was selected as the winner.

Thirteen year old Mikaela won R2000 for both herself and her school and her classmate Savana Best’s entry ,winning R500 for herself and the school, was placed third giving Springfield Convent every reason to be happy with the results.

Second place winner Darren Thompson, a Grade 7 learner from Parow North Primary won R1000 for Himself and another R1000 for his school. His entry was sponsored by the Merriman Lions Club of Goodwood whilst the Springfield Convent entries were sponsored by Newlands Lions club.

This year’s theme “Our World, Our Future” was widely interpreted by the young artists thus creating Imaginative visions of how things could turn out.

Since the annual Peace Poster Contest was introduced in 1988 millions of young people aged 11 to 13 years, from over 100 countries, have taken part. With a different peace theme every year the contest encourages learners, their art teachers, families and Lions to focus on the need for and meaning of peace in their lives.

The winning entry by 13 year old Mikaela Tuck of Springfield Convent will now go to the Lions national judging in November.

South Africa has had one international contest winner in 1999 and many merit award winners since then.

Mid-year Conference 2013

District 410A’s annual Mid-year Conference was held at Moorreesburg recently. The day was very well attended by hundreds of Lions from across our district.

The proceedings were kept short and sweet and the highlight of the day was the inspirational guest speaker, Hein Wagner, the blind adventurer/motivational speaker who captivated the audience with humour and enthusiasm, explaining his unique approach to life.

Here are some photos of the day, taken by CS Liz Houston:
