Lions Club of Durbanville: Are you ready for the challenge?

The Lions Club of Durbanville would like to challenge Lions, Leos and friends to join them for a day of Goalball Fun.

So, what is Goalball?  Goaball was invented just after the 2nd World War in 1946 for war veterans that were left blind. This is the only sport for the disabled that is not adapted from an able bodied sport such as cycling, athletics, swimming, wheelchair rugby, sitting volleyball, wheelchair basketball and more, and is also a Paralympic sport.

Goalball is played by two teams of three visually impaired athletes on an indoor court with tactile lines, with goals (9m wide x 1.3m high) at either end. The aim is to score by rolling the ball into the opposition’s goal, while the opposition attempts to block the ball with their bodies. All the players are blindfolded to insure that everyone is on the same level of blindness. The ball is more or less the size of a basketball with little bells in it for the players to be able to hear it. For more information follow the following links.
