Worldwide Week of Service Against Hunger 08 – 14 January 2018

Come on District 410A – lets’ start the new year off with a bang!  If all Clubs participate in the Worldwide Week of Service Against Hunger which happens this week – 08 to 14 January 2018, imagine the impact we will have on the lives of hungry people.

There are more people out there than we can imagine who go to bed each night with an empty tummy.

Some 795 million people around the world do not have enough food to lead a healthy active life.  (That equates to one in nine people on earth).

Sub-Saharan Africa is the region with the highest prevalence of hunger (percentage of population).  One person in four is undernourished.

Poor nutrition causes nearly half (45%) of deaths in children under the age of five. This equates to 3.1 million children each year.

66 million primary school age children attend classes hungry across the world – 23 million of these are in Africa alone.

So, although it’s short notice please consider doing a project to help the less fortunate than ourselves.  There are many ways of doing this:

  • Host a project to fight hunger during 08 – 14 January 2018
  • Help feed the homeless
  • Distribute lunches to schools
  • Distribute food to those who need it most
  • Plant a garden for a community or school

The possibilities are endless, and us being Lions will surely think of many more innovative ways of helping to fight this terrible plight.
